Casino advertising ban in Italy
Italy has introduced strong restrictions on gambling advertising. In practice, advertising for gambling (including online casino) is banned on TV, radio and through sponsorship of sports events or teams. Licensed operators must comply with these rules. The aim is to limit exposure to gambling and reduce harm. This page summarises the ban and what it means for players and operators.
What is banned
Under Italian law (e.g. Dignity Decree and subsequent provisions), gambling advertising is prohibited on television and radio, and through sponsorship that promotes gambling brands (e.g. on team jerseys or events). The ban covers both licensed and unlicensed gambling. So you will not see casino or betting ads during TV or radio programmes, or gambling brands as main sponsors of major sports. Some limited exceptions may apply (e.g. certain informational or institutional messages under strict conditions). The exact scope is set out in the legislation and ADM guidelines.
What remains allowed
Licensed operators can still communicate within the law: for example on their own website, in restricted online contexts, or in ways that do not fall under the ban (e.g. direct communication to registered users where permitted). They cannot run the kind of mass advertising that was previously common on TV or in sports sponsorship. Unlicensed operators are not allowed to target Italian players at all; the advertising ban applies to gambling in general.
Why it matters for players
You are less likely to see casino or betting ads on mainstream TV and radio or on sports kits. To find licensed casinos, use the official ADM list and the operators' own websites. Do not rely on flashy ads; check the ADM white list and the operator's terms and licence details.
